India is much more than the Taj Mahal. In this post I present you 10 places to visit in South India across the states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This list features popular destinations as well as off the beaten path places, including cities, temples and nature.
Kochi: friends, weddings and elephants
Kochi is a colonial city in the coast of Kerala. It is a well known city but the best of my stay was not the city itself: it was meeting friends, finding by coincidence an Indian christian wedding and attending a Hindu ceremony for the god Vishnu (with elephants!).
Munnar: thoughts between tea plantations
In Munnar I felt alone for the first time in India. It was cold. It was misty. It was solitary. During those two days, I thought about my first week of solo travel and how I was feeling about it.
Backwaters of Kerala: Allepey by local ferry
I knew Allepey is a touristic place, one of the main gateways to the backwaters. But I went there for a reason: I had explored the backwaters in Poovar by motor boat and in Munroe island by canoe, and I wanted to try a different way. And I could do it there.
Munroe island, a hidden gem in the backwaters of Kerala
Munroe Island is a hidden pearl in the backwaters. Not only it is a beautiful, calm place, the people I met there are wonderful. So far, one of the most beautiful places I have seen and one of my best experiences.
