After four months in Asia, on month five I moved on to Australia and New Zealand. That was a big change that came with new challenges. These are the reflections of my fifth month of solo travel, with a summary of the places I visited, the best moments I had and what’s next.
Milford Sound, described as one of the most beautiful spots of New Zealand, is in the most rainy region of the country. So if you go there, get a rain jacket and plenty of smiles, be ready for any kind of weather and enjoy the majesty of the fjord.
Nowadays Queenstown is not the town of the queen but the capital of adventure sports. But it is not necessary to do high adrenaline sports or party in the night to enjoy the town. You can walk around, go up the hills for spectacular views, or even visit Glenorchy and Paradise where there are a couple of The Lord of the Rings film locations.
I was looking forward to Fox Village. Having seen wonderful photos of the area, I was specially interested to see the Fox glacier and the lake Matheson, a mirror lake. But there I learnt that we should not always believe what we see in the postcards… but we can believe in people.
Have you ever played hide-and-seek with a glacier? Of course they cannot move, but that does not mean they cannot hide. They can, and pretty fast. It happened in Franz Josef, in the Southern Alps in New Zealand, South island.
